About the Department of Accounting
and Management Information Systems
At the Lerner College, the
Department of Accounting and MIS is a highly diverse department, with
faculty producing high quality research in publications and in the top
academic journals. The majority of the Accounting & MIS faculty
hold Ph.D.s and certification in public accounting and/or managerial and
IS areas. Accounting & MIS faculty bring in distinguished guest
lecturers and professionals from firms and companies to speak on topics
of interest to students. Two
bachelors degrees are offered, a BS in Accounting and a BS in Management
Information Systems (MIS). In addition, a
minor in MIS is also available. At the graduate level, an MS in Accounting
and an MS in Information Systems & Technology Management are offered.
Computing is an integral part of the learning process and
students are strongly encouraged to purchase a computer.
Wireless network hubs are installed in the student lounges and
common areas in both Purnell Hall, Alfred Lerner Hall, and in some
classrooms. The College has advanced computing resources ranging
from its own state-of-the-art computing lab, an SAP "Enterprise-wide"
software system, a group decision support environment, and an e-commerce
server. To find out about recommended

opportunities for research and for career experience. MIS
students, for example, work on information systems projects in the
business community. Our accounting majors are also excellent
candidates for the University Honors
Program. Through the various departmental student
organizations, faculty and students help to promote awareness of issues
in the accounting profession.
As you can see from our Mission
Statement, the faculty are committed to teaching students how to
succeed in all different accounting-related occupations. Our courses are
rigorous and our students are successful.
