 | Mark Serva, Associate Professor of MIS Serva coordinates and presents at international PBL conference in Colombia, July, 2012 Mark Serva served on the organizing committee for the July 2012 Pan-American Problem-based Learning (PBL) Conference in Cali, Colombia. He also presented a paper on the Global Enterprise Technology (GET) program and consortium. The paper's co-authors included Bob Heckman of Syracuse University and Jeff Saltz of JPMorgan Chase. Mark also participated in an authentic PBL experience in Cartagena, which explored ideas for increasing student involvement in the classroom. |
 | Revansiddha B. Khanapure, Assistant Professor Khanapure awarded 2011-12 GUR Grant, June, 2012 Khanapure received a $6,000 General University Research (GUR) grant for 2011-12 along with Department of Finance match in the amount of $1,828 for a total project budget of $7,828. The grant will be used to build on recent research in around the effects of health on portfolio allocation (stocks and investments). Khanapure's work will help in understanding the source of aversion toward risky assets and aims to make significant contributions to the study of finance, economics and public policy. |
| | Professors Bambach, Herzenstein, Shapiro & Kydd honored, Department of Business Administration announces awards, June, 2012 The Department of Business Administration has announced the department awardees for outstanding achievement during the 2011-2012 academic year. Mark Bambach, instructor, was awarded the department's teaching award; Michal Herzenstein, assistant professor, was awarded the department's research award; and Stewart Shapiro, professor, was awarded the department's service award. Also in the department and announced on UDaily, Christine Kydd, professor, was awarded the Lerner College Student Choice Teaching Award by the Lerner College Student Advisory Board (see http://www.udel.edu/udaily/2012/may/lerner-honors-052912.html). |
 | James O'Neill, Professor, Economics; Director, CEEE O'Neill participates in 2012 ECOPRENEUR Green Entrepreneurship program, June, 2012 O'Neill was the only judge from the United States - out of 17 judges and 26 teams from 23 countries - to participate in ECOPRENEUR 2012, an international business plan competition for young entrepreneurs. The competition was held June 18 through June 23 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. "The idea is that entrepreneurs and ecopreneurs are similar because they are both idea-driven, innovative, adaptable and creative," said O'Neill. "The demand for "green" products combined with government incentives has led to ecopreneurs starting new companies to push forward environmental progress." The competition was designed to give young entrepreneurs the opportunity to address clean technology, green management, health-friendly and sustainable business ideas, and social causes through new ventures. | | Operations Management Program, APICS honors Operations Management program, May, 2012 The Operations Management program in the Lerner College's Department of Business Administration was selected by the APICS Brandywine Valley Chapter to be "Company of the Year" for 2012. The honor is in recognition of the program's active and ongoing support of APICS, the Brandywine Valley Chapter and the University of Delaware Student Chapter. This is a first, since an educational institution has never been named before (DuPont received the award in 2011, and AstraZeneca prior to that). OM faculty include Bintong Chen, Darwin Davis, Adam Fleischhacker, William Gehrlein, Hemant Kher, Christine Kydd and Erwin Saniga. The program was honored at the chapter's Professional Development meeting on May 8, 2012. |

Puglisi, MBNA America Professor Emeritus of Business UD confers honorary degree on Puglisi, May, 2012 At UD's 163rd Commencement held Saturday, May 26, 2012, Don Puglisi was awarded the honorary degree of doctor of humanities. Puglisi served as a member of the Finance faculty for 30 years and continues to be a thought-leader in finance as the Managing Director of Puglisi & Associates, a firm that he founded in 1973, and through his continued involvement in the life of Lerner College. His generosity has benefitted UD in many ways. Honorary degrees were also awarded to Simmie Knox, Doctor of Fine Arts; Soledad O’Brien, Doctor of Humane Letters; and Angelica Zander Rudenstine, Doctor of Humanities.  | Frederick J. DeMicco, ARAMARK Professor of HRIM DeMicco delivers lectures at conference in Finland, March, 2012 Frederick J. DeMicco delivered three lectures in Helsinki, Finland at a major Nordic and Russian hospitality business conference. Symposia Gastro Pro is a conference where international presenters lead the listeners toward upcoming trends and new concepts in the hospitality industry. The first seminar presented the results of the Restaurant 2020-survey concerning the new innovative hotel, spa, restaurant and service concepts; the second presented research on “Future trends in the Hospitality sector.” DeMicco also gave an invited presentation on Medical Tourism, Spas and Hotels, and the impact of social analytic tools on hotels to the undergraduate, and MBA students at Haaga –Helia University- the University of Applied Sciences of Helsinki. |
 | Ji Kyung Park, Assistant Professor of Business Administration Park awarded C.W. Park Young Contributor Award, January, 2012 The C.W. Park Young Contributor Award is given by the Journal of Consumer Psychology and Society for Consumer Psychology. This prestigious award is recognized once a year based on the papers accepted and published in the latest volume of the Journal. The award committee selects only one scholar who has the best first-authored publication in the Journal among those who have not yet passed their second year of professorship in the marketing discipline. The award is announced and recognized at the Society for Consumer Psychology annual conference. |
