Message from the Dean
Anchoring the University of Delaware's Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics are four important cornerstones. First is a talented faculty whose intellectual contributions enhance programs and provide added value to students and to Delaware's corporate community. Next, the student body has a remarkably high academic profile and outstanding credentials. Third is the college's commitment to innovation and technology. And the fourth is the international perspective that is woven throughout the college's programs. All of these cornerstones support the college's commitment to providing students with the tools and resources necessary to reach their highest goals.
The College is involved in a significant number of innovative activities dedicated to the enhancement of our programs and its students. At the undergraduate level, we have established both mentorship and internship programs. Students have the opportunity to learn more about various career options through the College's mentorship program, launched in September 2007. Both the internship program and the Executive Mentors-Scholars program enable students to gain valuable experience prior to graduation by working in a business-related environment, either during the summer or part-time throughout the semesters. At the graduate level, we offer one of the nation’s most innovative career-study options, the Corporate Associates Program. It provides MBA students with extensive high-level work experience while attending class. And, in the international arena, the University’s distinction of being one of the top-ranked schools in study abroad participation among the nation’s public colleges means that there is a large array of travel-study options for our undergraduate and graduate students.
Thanks to the support and input from our alumni and friends, visions become realities. Three such examples include our nationally renowned Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, the College's Exelon Trading Center, and our newest center, the Venture Development Center. The Exelon Trading Center is an advanced, high-tech simulated trading center that enables students to stay current with the fast-paced world of financial markets. The Venture Development Center is designed to support students, faculty, and the community in efforts to promote entrepreneurship and new ventures.
