Departmental Contributions to the Strategic Path to Prominence

OFFICE OF UNDERGRADUATE ADVISING AND ACADEMIC SERVICES

The Office of Undergraduate Advising and Academic Services (UAAS) plays an integral role in the ongoing efforts of the Lerner College to move forward on its Path to Prominence. The contributions of the UAAS focus on the “Undergraduate Academic Environment” milestone, as the primary mission of the Office is to provide students with the resources necessary to achieve their academic and career goals.

1. A Diverse and Stimulating Undergraduate Academic Environment
    

   • In conjunction with the Admissions Office, plan recruiting events and activities to attract the best and the brightest. Expand the efforts of the Office in identifying high ability students who would be potential candidates for the Dean’s Scholar Program.
      
   • Evaluate the feasibility of expanding the services provided through the Excel Program (directed toward under-represented students) to include international students, those on exchange programs, and those planning to study abroad who may need enhanced skills for interacting in new cultures.
      
   • Determine additional measures to provide college support for academically at-risk students in the Lerner College through the existing REAP Program.
      
   • Continue to provide expert, one-on-one advisement to students as they select and pursue their academic goals. Examine ways to more effectively communicate with the undergraduate student population through expanded web communication, online newsletters, and additional outreach communication efforts.
      
   • In conjunction with the newly-established College Career Services unit, support efforts to provide career advisement, and internship, mentorship, and placement opportunities. Where feasible, assist in outreach efforts to establish business/student partnerships that could lead to undergraduate employment opportunities.

2. The Global Initiative
    

   • Encourage study abroad opportunities in support of the College’s goal to expand study abroad opportunities and enrollment. Serve as a centralized resource for College programs offered internationally and work with students in guiding them in the selection of appropriate coursework and planning to ensure their graduation within four years.
