Departmental Contributions to the Strategic Path to Prominence

DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

 

  1. A Diverse and Stimulating Undergraduate Academic Environment
     

    • Continue to develop stimulating new academic programs that help all University students satisfy career goals. Collaborate with the College of Engineering in developing an engineering management undergraduate program.
       
    • Conduct curricula reviews and evaluate existing undergraduate business programs with the goal of offering flexible, high quality, societally-relevant, and academically rigorous programs that are among the best in the country and the world.
       
    • Identify and encourage high-ability students to enroll in the Dean’s Scholar and Honors programs.
  2. A Premiere Research and Graduate University
     

    • Participate in a feasibility study for a college-wide Ph.D. program in Business, with possible concentrations in Marketing, Management, and/or International Business.
       
    • Consider strategic hires of new faculty in targeted areas to improve national reputation and to attract highly qualified doctoral students. Improve the retention and support of research-productive faculty.
       
    • Consider more active collaboration with the Operations Research graduate program and the proposed Engineering Management graduate program.
  3. Excellence in Professional Education
     

    • Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the MBA program’s relevance to current societal needs, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the program’s national and international reputation.
       
    • Support the appointment of “Professional Practice Faculty” or “Distinguished Scholars in Residence” whose roles may include outreach, research, and instruction.
       
    • Support College efforts in offering enhanced professional and executive certification programs, in cooperation with the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies.
       
    • Partner with graduate professional programs across campus to provide business programming for students in non-business fields.
  4. The Initiative for the Planet
     

    • Consider a new course offering in sustainable consumption or “green” marketing.
       
    • Support faculty research in sustainability issues.
  5. The Global Initiative
     

    • Continue development of the International Business Studies programs—the major for Lerner College students and the minor for students outside the Lerner College.
       
    • Support College efforts to increase international undergraduate enrollment.
       
    • Support faculty research on global topics and host international visiting scholars.
  6. The Engaged University
     

    • Expand project-based learning opportunities involving faculty, students, and business clients, at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
       
    • Support the appointment of “Professional Practice Faculty” or “Distinguished Scholars in Residence” whose roles may include outreach, research, and instruction.
