Information about the Lerner College of Business and Economics
Founded in 1963, the College of Business and Economics is one of the largest at the University of Delaware. Yet with 100 faculty and 2,400 students, the College is small enough to ensure that our students receive the personal attention and tailored academic and professional programs that foster success. Our undergraduate programs are in high demand and we are rapidly gaining widespread recognition for the quality of our facilities, programs, students, and faculty.
The College occupies two buildings-the newly renovated Purnell Hall, which was originally dedicated in 1973, and MBNA America Hall, a leading-edge classroom and office facility that was dedicated in 1997.Our Mission: The mission of the College is to foster scholarship and offer distinctive, innovative, educational opportunities related to the successful management and leadership of organizations operating in an environment of scarce resources, rapid change, global competition, and advances in technology.
Undergraduates: The College has four academic departments serving over 2,000 students: Accounting and Information Systems, Business Administration, Economics, and Finance. Majors are offered in accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing and operations management. Minors are offered in economics, business administration, international business and management information/decision support systems.
Graduate Students: The College has almost 500 students enrolled in its part-time, full-time and executive MBA programs. In addition, the Department of Economics offers master's degree and Ph.D. programs, and a master's degree is offered through the Department of Accounting.
Accreditation: The College of Business and Economics is one of only 370 institutions fully accredited by the AACSB - The International Association for Management Education. Organized in 1916, AACSB is the premier accrediting agency for bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree programs in business administration and accounting. While there are some 1,300 colleges and universities in the United States alone that offer undergraduate business degrees and more than 700 that offer MBA programs, only a select few receive this accreditation.
