Workshops

Students can sign up for the following workshops. These workshops are voluntary and non-credit.

The Fall Workshop Series includes the following three workshops and is open to all students (no prerequisites). You can attend one, two or all three. There is no registration, so arrive early!

1. Hedging in Commodities Markets(Monday September 21st at 4pm): This workshop will be conducted by traders from the Exelon Power Team. Participants will learn how futures and options contracts are used to hedge production costs and future sales volatility within the energy markets.

2. Technical Analysis ( Monday October 19th at 4pm): This workshop will be conducted by traders from the Exelon Power Team. Participants will learn how technical analysis, in addition to fundamental analysis, is utilized in trade execution. Participants will learn how to interpret candlestick charts, bar charts, moving averages ( short and long-term), volatility and other measures.

3.Portfolio Construction ( Monday November 16th at 4pm): This workshop will be conducted by Wealth Managers from the J.P. Morgan Private Bank. Participants will gain an understanding of how institutional portfolio's are designed. Topics will include capital markets assumptions, budgeting risk and asset allocation using traditional asset classes plus private equity, hedge funds, and structured products.

Intro To Reuters 3000 Xtra

This is a one-hour workshop designed to teach you the basics of navigating through Reuters 3000 Xtra. An overview of the capabilities of the software will be provided. The following materials will be covered during the workshop.  Workshops do NOT require registration to attend.  Workshops are taught by Greg Kuhfeldt and will be held on the following Mondays at 11:30 am: September 14th, October 5th, October 19th and November 9th.

Intro to Bloomberg

This is a one-hour workshop designed to teach you the basics of navigating through Bloomberg. An overview of the capabilities of the software will be provided.In order to attend the workshop, students must first create an id and Password. Please stop in the ETC prior to the workshop to create an ID. The process takes 5 minutes and requires that you have a cell phone available. The following materials will be covered during the workshop. Workshopds do NOT require registration to attend.  Workshops are taught by Erik Kuhn and will be held on the following Mondays at 10am: September 14th, October 5th, October 19th and November 9th. .

Bloomberg Training Program

The Bloomberg Training Program can be completed in-class or through self-study. The training will familiarize you with basic Bloomberg functionality and Equity Market fundamentals. Your understanding will be measured through two exams that are administered through the Bloomberg Terminal. A score of 75% on each exam must be earned to receive the Acknowledgement of Completion of Equity Training. Students may continue training to receive Acknowledgement of Completion in Fixed Income, Foreign Exchange, and Commodities. In-class training begins on Thursday October 8th at 2pm and meets each Thursday thereafter at the same time. Please stop in the ETC prior to the workshop to create an ID. The process takes 5 minutes and requires that you have a cell phone available. Workshops do NOT require registration to attend.

Technical Analysis

The technical analysis workshop is an online video which last 1.2 hours.  The video is designed to teach students the basis of technical analysis including topics such as chart types, moving averages, pattern types, and support and resistance levels.
