Accounting & Management Information Systems

Problem-solvers.  Intelligent.  Committed.  Team-Oriented.  Companies who hire our accounting and MIS students say they have these characteristics and more.  Our department is unique in that it integrates two business disciplines that require strong analytical thinking—accounting and management information systems.  This integration enables our students to use both their problem-solving and technological skills to solve business problems.

Finding Your Dream Job.  Our department has had strong success in placing our students in many top companies in the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond. Each year, our department provides a number of opportunities for students to meet and interact with managers from dozens of global companies who offer jobs and internships to our students.

Your Opportunities are Endless.  Many accounting and MIS undergraduate students avail themselves of one or more of the Universities special learning opportunities.  Our majors are excellent candidates for the University Honors Program and Study Abroad programs.  To enhance their academic program, students can also select from a number of minors offered throughout the University, particularly the MIS minor.

 

Accounting Students.  To really understand how business works, you must understand accounting.  Accounting professionals must not only understand financial documents, they must also be able to use those numbers to make complex business decisions.

 Accounting students are always in demand.  Accounting has been named one of the top careers in a number of publications, both for job satisfaction and for starting salaries. 

 Accounting Students:

  • Receive foundational knowledge that is critical for preparing for the Certified Public Accountant’s examination.

Management Information Systems Students.  By relying on their knowledge of information technology, MIS students provide the insight needed to solve today’s most difficult business problems.

 MIS professionals continue to be in demand because they understand how to use networking, social media, and the Internet to create new opportunities for today’s businesses.

Admission to the Department of Accounting and MIS

Students who entering the University of Delaware must apply through the University's centralized Admissions Office.  Students already enrolled at the University of Delaware should contact department office for a "change-of-major" application.
