Management of Information Systems Minor
The MIS Minor enables students to solve business problems by applying their knowledge of technology in the workplace. In addition to courses that utilize database and structured problem-solving, MIS minor students also participate in the MIS capstone course. This project-based course provides the student with an opportunity to work in teams to develop a solution to a client's actual business problem.
Who Should Take the MIS Minor?
The MIS Minor is designed to complement the knowledge business students receive in their major field of study, but it is not limited to students within the Alfred Lerner College. Students in majors outside of the College may be able to participate as well. The eight (8) required courses integrate fundamental business knowledge with technical skills to expand career options beyond traditional opportunities presented by the student's major course of study.
What are the Required Courses for the MIS Minor?
It is strongly recommended that the courses listed on the MIS Minor Courses page be taken in the sequence outlined. Many of these courses are offered only once in the academic year, so careful planning is required.
There are eight (8) required courses for the MIS Minor. Students in majors outside of the Alfred Lerner College must utilize the substitutions outlined. Students in majors in the College CAN NOT use any of the substitutions except CISC 181 for MISY 225 with the permission of the Project Coordinator.
How Do I Enroll in the MIS Minor?
- During the first semester of your sophomore year, carefully consider applying for the MIS Minor; check with your advisor to understand how it will fit with your anticipated course load and how these credits will count towards graduation.
- B&E students must successfully complete MISY 225 with a C- or better. Other students must complete either MISY 225 or CISC 181 with a C- or better.
