MIS Undergraduate Degree

MIS makes IT happen--

The Major in Management Information Systems (MIS) is a program combining an in-depth study of computerized information systems with a concentration in a traditional area of business - Accounting, Finance, Management, Operations, or Economics. The study of MIS includes a study of core computer science concepts but differs from traditional computer science in that MIS concentrates on the application and management of computerized information systems in business.

Students take core courses in computer science and in business, along with advanced courses in MIS and upper level courses in a traditional area of business.  Electives are chosen from computer science and/or MIS. Students graduate with a unique combination of computer, management, and business skills that position them favorably to design and apply computerized information systems solutions to business problems and align them with strategic business objectives.

MIS and computer science courses include programming, databases and data management, networks and network security, information system analysis and design, and project management. Core business courses include accounting, finance, marketing, management, and operations. Upper level businesses courses are taken in a specific area of business that the student chooses.  Follow the link for a suggested sequence of courses for an MIS major.  In addition, an MIS minor is also available.

Both the major and minor conclude with capstone courses which are project-focused and provide the student with an opportunity to work in teams to develop a solution to a client's business problem.

Students currently enrolled in the MIS program may be interested in joining Mu Iota Sigma (MIS) Honor Society.  Don't forget to visit the Career Services Center weekly for new job and internship postings and other resources to prepare you for the future.
