Management

Overview
Managers work with people to make and implement the decisions that move organizations forward. The Management major prepares students to be productive and insightful managers. Management students ask such questions as: How can we make organizational changes while maintaining production? What resources do we need to develop and how should we use them to lead our organization to a competitive advantage? Management is all about leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. 

Curriculum
Required Management courses address micro issues of human resources and organizational behavior and macro issues of strategy and organizational design. In addition to these management basics, Management majors can choose among major course electives in International Business, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, and Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management. 

With the Management major electives, students have the opportunity to tailor their management focus to a more strategic level, a more human resources orientation, or an international business emphasis.

Careers
Graduates of this program enter organizations wish job titles that include project manager, territory sales manager, credit analyst, account coordinator, customer account manager, business/research analyst, and assistant to the CFO/CIO/COO. Management majors join all types of organizations, large and small, domestic and international, non-profit and government, service and manufacturing companies. A few of the firms that have previously hired Management majors include JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, W.L. Gore & Associates, DuPont, CSC Consulting, AT&T Solutions, Raytheon Systems, Atlantic City Electric & Delmarva Power, AstraZeneca, and IBM. 

If you enjoy interacting with diverse groups of people, taking a leadership role, working with people to identify and accomplish common goals, or solving challenging organizational problems, then Management is the major for you. 

The Lerner College is home to a state-of-the-art financial trading facility, the $1.4 million student-led Blue Hen Investment Fund, a student-managed restaurant and hotel, a high-technology development center of a global bank and a start-up experience for students with new business ideas.

Lerner College faculty - like Anu Sivaraman, who is among Social Media Marketing Magazine’s “Top 100 Marketing Professors on Twitter” and MBAprograms.org’s “Top 50 Marketing Professors on Twitter” - are thought leaders who command attention from influential business audiences, economists and policy makers.

All Lerner College departments offer experience-driven learning and emphasize evidence-based analytics methods to enrich the student experience. Here, finance students visit New York City’s financial districts for a first-hand look at markets trading and to meet with UD alumni.

Charles W. Horn, AS75, and wife Patricia, recently made a $3 million commitment to enhance and expand entrepreneurial studies.
