Double and Interdepartmental Majors
Double Majors
Students may wish to combine their study of economics with a second major. Nearly 45% of undergraduate economics majors have a second major. The most common double majors with economics are finance, international relations, and political science.
Interdepartmental Majors
Established interdepartmental majors exist that combine economics with political science, mathematics, or a foreign language. These interdepartmental majors combine courses from two departments allowing the student to tailor a program to meet his or her individual interests and goals.
An interdepartmental major usually consists of 51 credit hours selected from related fields with a minimum of 21 credit hours selected from each major field. In general, the Department of Economics requires that the 21 hours of economics include ECON151, 152, 300 or 301, and 303.
