Faculty Instructional Buy-Out Policies
Faculty members with externally funded grants may, with the approval of the Department Chair and the Dean, buy out a portion of their assigned teaching time as follows:
- One three credit course per year may be bought out for 1/8th of the faculty member’s 9-month salary plus benefits.
- For faculty members on administered loads with more than 25% assigned to unfunded research, buying out additional courses during the year requires buy out of a comparable amount of research time. For example, buy out of a second course during the year would require 1/4 of the faculty member’s 9-month salary plus benefits.
Sample workloads of faculty members buying out 1, 2 or 3 courses according to this policy are outlined below.
