Lerner College Lectures and Seminar Series
Chaplin Tyler Executive Leadership Lecture Series
The Chaplin Tyler Executive Leadership Lecture Series brings leaders from the business, non-profit and government sectors to the University of Delaware campus to share their experiences and insights with students, faculty and the business community. Several times each year, the Lerner College’s Graduate and Executive Programs office invites these leaders to spend a day engaging in an open exchange of ideas and perspectives. The next Tyler Lecture is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2012.
Hutchinson Lecture Series
The Hutchinson Lecture in Macroeconomics, which is sponsored annually by the Department of Economics, was established in 1990 to honor the distinguished academic career of the late Harry D. Hutchinson, a professor of economics who taught at UD from 1959-89. Each year a distinguished scholar and policy-maker is invited to present the Hutchinson Lecture in the spring semester. Recent speakers include Alice Rivlin, William Poole, and Donald Kohn.
W.L. Gore Lecture Series in Management Science
The W.L. Gore Lecture Series in Management Science, which is sponsored by an endowment from the Gore family, features experts in the application of probability, statistics, and experimental design to decision making, including applications in academia, business, government, engineering, and medicine. The lecture series recognizes the key role that the fields of probability, statistics, and experimental design have played in the success of W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc. The inaugural lecture in this series was given in March 2011.
College Distinguished Seminars
The Lerner College hosts a research seminar series, featuring business faculty and researchers from across the country. Designed to cover a broad range of research topics in business, the series covers everything from supply chain design and hotel analytics to board advising and mutual funds. Seminars, which are free and open to the public, are held throughout the spring and fall semesters.
Department of Economics Seminars
The Department of Economics sponsors two regular seminars – the Seminar in Economic Theory and the Seminar in Applied Economics. Speakers include both department faculty and well-known scholars from other universities. Both seminars are open to the public.
Department of HRIM Paul Wise Executive in Residence Speaker Series
The Paul E. Wise Executive in Residence speakers series, named in honor of HRIM founder Paul Wise, was established by the department in 2006-07 to bring prominent industry professionals and executives to campus and to inspire HRIM students early in their careers.
Department of Finance Seminars
The Department of Finance sponsors regular seminars open to the public, held throughout the semester in 230 Purnell Hall on UD’s Newark campus from 10:30am to noon.
E-Studies Free Lunch Fridays
The Entrepreneurial Studies program hosts a lunch-and-learn series throughout the academic year, featuring seasoned entrepreneurs, investors and startup consultants. Students who have started or may be interested in starting their own business are encouraged to attend; however, the workshops are open to all members of the community. Seating and food are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
