Admission Requirements

Admission to the MS in Finance program is competitive. Those who meet stated requirements are not guaranteed admission, nor are those who fail to meet all of those requirements necessarily precluded from admission if they offer other appropriate strengths. Admission decisions are made by the MS in Finance Program Committee.

GRE and GMAT Scores

  • The MS in Finance accepts both GRE and GMAT

  • Minimum Scores Required for Consideration for Admission
    • GRE:  A combined score of 1050 on the verbal and quantitative portions
    • GMAT: At or above the 55th percentile
  • Competitive Scores for Admission Based on Recent Classes
    • Around the 70th percentile on both the verbal and quantitative portions of either the GRE or GMAT

Undergraduate Major and GPA

  • Must hold the equivalent of a 4-year U.S. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Need not have majored in any specific undergraduate field.

  • Earned an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale), with a 3.0 in their

    major

  • Incoming students are expected to have

    • Strong written and oral communication skills

    • An understanding of the fundamentals of finance and accounting concepts

    • Basic computer skills

    • Taken the college level calculus and finite mathematics. 

  • The admissions committee will examine each accepted applicant’s transcripts and work experience to determine if these prerequisites have been satisfied. 

  • Students deficient in any of the admission requirements or pre-requisites may be admitted on provisional status and be required to complete non-degree credit coursework. 

TOEFL/IELTS

  • The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS ( International English Language Testing System) is required for all foreign applicants to graduate programs at the University of Delaware.
  • The minimum TOEFL IBT scores required for consideration for admission is 100.
  • The minimum accepted IELTS  score is 7.5
  • A waiver of the TOEFL/IELTS exam is only allowed when:
    • A degree has been earned in a country where English is the primary language.
    • A degree has already been earned in the United States.
  • TOEFL/IELTS scores are valid for two (2) years.
  • Official TOEFL scores are only accepted when received directly from ETS. The institution code for the University of Delaware is 5811. This should be all you need to report the TOEFL – the department code and school type is not necessary.
  • IELTS scores  should arrive from IELTS International and be sent directly to : Office of Graduate and Professional Education, 234 Hullihen Hall, Newark DE, 19716.
