Minors Offered
There are several minors available in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics: Students may also choose to minor in any discipline outside the College, depending upon the policies of that department.
Advertising Minor
The minor in advertising is designed to give students from any major an increased understanding of the concepts of marketing, economics, mass communication, and public relations, as well as the strategies and tactics of advertising management. In addition, students will gain familiarity with the rapidly changing digital media landscape and examine some of the social and cultural issues inherent in the new media and technologies.
International Business Studies Minor
The minor in International Business Studies is designed for students interested in the language of business, but are not majoring in a business area. The minor is restricted to students pursuing a major in Economics or any major outside of the Lerner College of Business and Economics. Other Lerner College majors must pursue the minor in International Business or the Minor in International Business with language option. Applications are available in the Business Administration Department office located in room 236 Lerner Hall.
Management Information Systems (MIS)
The Management Information Systems (MIS) minor is designed to provide students with a foundation in business information technology, project management and to prepare students to integrate computers and computing systems with the business environment. The field of MIS is a rapidly expanding one, and this minor allows students career options in computing and database management positions. Applications may be submitted online using the UDSIS request for change of minor form. Students must apply to this minor in the fall of their sophomore year as the classes begin junior year in sequence.
International Business Minor/ International Business Minor with Language
The minor in International Business is designed to give increased understanding of the international dimension of business. Participation is limited to students with a major in accounting, finance, hotel, restaurant and institutional management, management, management information systems, marketing or operations management. The minor in International Business with Language option required completion of the 18 credits required for the minor in International Business plus completion of at least two courses at the 200-level or above taught in the language of choice. Please submit the online request for change of program/plan form through UDSIS to apply.
Economics
The Economics minor is available to all majors, except Economics majors. Students are exposed to the basic concepts and methodology in economics and gain formal recognition for their efforts. The emphasis on upper-level courses insures that minors can claim a reasonable level of competence in economics. Economics is of central importance to peoples' lives, and an understanding of the basic concepts of economics is nearly essential. Business Administration
The Business Administration minor is not open to majors in Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, International Business Studies, Operations Management and MIS. The courses required for this minor provide a basic understanding of the language and major functional areas of business including marketing, financial management, basic accounting, organizational behavior, and operations management. Applications may be obtained in room 236 Alfred Lerner Hall.
Entrepreneurial Studies
The Entrepreneurial Studies minor is open to all majors at the University of Delaware. The minor builds upon foundation courses in the functional areas of business to provide students with the ability to conceptualize, develop, and launch a business or work within an entrepreneurial venture.
